today is my birthday, just sayin’.

I’m officially 21.

A lot of the time, I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing trying to pursue a career in the arts as an interior designer, an architect, or what have you. Realistically, those sorts of jobs can be highly competitive and difficult to come by, I’m sure. But then I ask myself if I’d rather be stuck…

As a fellow person who has been in your freshman shoes a few years ago, I suggest that you pursue something that you find you enjoy. Yes, pursuing a major in something that will give you a stable job will be safe for a future family but if you hate it, that above average paycheck will not make up for the life long disappoint you’ll have being in that career. And when you don’t enjoy your job, it will affect your relationship with your own family and friends. And quite frankly, us Asians subconsciously welcome that type of lifestyle (i hate my job but its a stable average income job) because it’s what’s expected of us by our family.

Having said that however, competitive jobs like interior designing requires someone to be dedicated with no doubt in their mind that interior designing is for them. I’ve said this to many people who have went into fashion design school and have failed, “there’s a difference between being interested in fashion and becoming a fashion designer.”

"her again" when it comes to Meryl Streep

Meryl’s last win was in the 80’s, so I don’t understand all the “her again” complaints about her win tonight. Meryl Streep is a fantastic actress and her work in The Iron Lady was magnificent in every single way. Also, most people who are complaining about her winning probably did not even watch The Iron Lady. The movie itself may have been disappointing, but Meryl Streep’s performances was one of her best performances she had in the past decade.

Congratulations Meryl.
